Got out for two hours on early Friday evening to a 150+ year old Chicago park. Tried getting some more older nickels but only got 2 Jeffersons - 1939 and 1940. Also found 2 Indians 1896 and 1897. Most surprising find of the hunt is what might be a military or government agency hat badge. It has 3 holes which I assume are to sew it on to a hat or uniform. Can anyone identify it? It was about 7 inches deep.

Those Indians look to be in great condition, must of been in good soil all those years to look that good.
That is one cool badge. Think you're right, probably military.

This is one of my favorite parks to hunt in because of the sandy type soil, the Indians can come out super clean. The two in the picture are actually not as good as they usually come. Below is an 1879 I found in a different area of the same park last year. Only cleaning I did was some soap and water.

What a great spot to hunt...... You are going to have to build on to your house to have a place to put everything when you get to be my age! :) That hat pin is really neat. I did a pretty good search online and couldn't come up with one just like it (and that is good :) ) At first I thought it might be off of a Budweiser Clydesdale wagon driver's hat but they all have the large A on them. The eagle is similar though.
