Locator Larry found another good race track over in Illinois and these came out of there on Saturday in a couple of hours of hunting. Looking forward to going back!

1917 P Standing Liberty Quarter
1909 P Barber Quarter
1917 D mercury Dime
1912 P Barber Dime
1905 S Barber Dime

Plus three really crusty Indianhead pennies and some old trash.

Still trying to find the best method...the baking soda tin foil method didn't get the black off too well. I may have to go to Tarnex as much as I don't want to.

I'm still trying the baking soda aluminum foil method. The first pass did take some of the black off, the second pass did smell like rotton eggs so I think this noon when I check them out an more of the black should be gone.

Some of the things I did while do the baking soda thing this time was:

1. I wraped the coins with the non-shinny side of the foil.

2. I put I'm guessing 2 table spoons of salt into the water at the start of the process.

3. With the coins in the salt water I let them boil for roughly 5 mins. That way the coins, foil, water and the pan were good and hot.

4. I poured alot of baking soda in, guessing 5, 6 maybe 7 table spoons worth. I than turned the heat down some and let them boil for 2 or 3 more mins. Than turned off the heat to let them cool.

5. When I removed them from the foil, I decided to use the foil only once, I patted them like you would out of a dirt in a feild. Some black came off while handling them this way.

6. Rinsed them in cold water and stated again.

Keith you were correct they turned chalky colored, I didn't remember that the last time I did this method. I think when all the black is off I might try a silver dip???? That way there is no rubbing action for micro scrates.

Here they are! It took a while but I finally got to it. They look pretty good in person. A LOT better than they were for sure.

:-) I cleaned them just like you did.

Tarnex rinsing each time then fresh Tarnex - times 3. Then a light cleaning with a $6 jeweler's cloth (each side) from Walmart.
