A victim was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday while metal detecting in Spotsylvania County.

BY PORTSIA SMITH

A person metal-detecting in Spotsylvania County was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday.

Spotsylvania deputies responded to the area of Gordon Road and Old Plank Road about 12:30 p.m. for a reported robbery, said Capt. Mike Harvey of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.

Harvey said the victim was relic hunting on land in the Chancellor area and was approached by a man with a gun who demanded money.

Harvey said the man fled on foot after the victim surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police tracking dogs attempted to locate the robber without success, Harvey said.

The robber is described as a black male about 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt with a hood, Harvey said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office at 540/582-7115.

I'm really suprised this doesn't happen more often. When I am hunting, I am focused on what I am doing and block out most of the things going on around me. Your right Joe, hunting with a partner is safer, and also a lot more fun.
Life is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.

...Because of the snake problem...if we are deep in the woods we tend to hunt without headphones or use the Rattlers type headphones.....hunting without head phones or hunting with just one earphone on...makes one more aware of your surroundings....if the area seems hazardous either with varmints or the 2 legged kind ....I would either skip or proceed with a buddy very cautiously....we forget in our quests that No treasure is worth getting hurt or killed....
