Road Trip Day 4 Finds 4 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 72
Day 4 was a short hunt on the way back from a short family vacation. We drove separately so Mom wouldn't have to hang around waiting for us to hunt and that made things a lot easier.

The bad part was that we didn't get there until late in the day and couldn't stay overnight plus we had a few hours of driving still to get home so we could only hunt about 3 hours before we had to leave.

We started in a different area that we thought would have a lot of coins but it turned out not to have (at least the places we hunted) so we went back to the area where we had found the ones a few days before.

On the way to the spot where I found the dime I got a nice deep penny hit that ended up being a 1916 P Wheatie about 6 inches down. Then right after that I got a nice dime hit about the same depth This one was a decent 1896 P Barber Dime! Unfortunately I hit it with the digger getting to it. I figure it must have been on edge because I didn't pinpoint it in the right spot.

Normally on the e-trac my pinpoint center is right in the middle of the coil, except when coins are on edge it tends to pinpoint to the back of the coil I think. I still haven't completely figured the e-trac out after hunting with it for several years

I didn't realize until I took these photos that the 1916 Lincoln still has mint luster on it trying to shine through the patina. Also I didn't realize the 96 dime would grade "fine" with a full liberty! I forgot to take my magnifier along on the trip. Those are handy to have!

Also I can't let out any information about this place or it would give it away.

Re:Road Trip Day 4 Finds 4 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 72
The next two coins were also very interesting!

The first one was an 1899 Indian cent. It was about 6 inches down as well. I didn't hit this coin but it appears to have old marks on it that could be from a digging tool. This place in not a corn or soybean field and has never been plowed. It's interesting that the marks on the coin have a nice green patina like the rest of the coin. Makes me wonder how many years it takes to get a green solid patina on a copper coin.

The next one was a definite silver dime signal also about 6 inches deep. This one turned out to be a blazing 1903 P! The photo doesn't do it justice. I think if I were to have it graded that it would come out anywhere from MS 50 AU to MS 60 UNCIRCULATED.

I'll post another pic I took of it along side the 1900 P I posted earlier.

Two more barber dimes...one I butchered and I think it was also on edge and it was to the backside of the hole (and past that even).

I think there are several more coins at this spot but it will be a while before we get back because of the distance. Maybe even next year....
