On Saturday morning I went back to the spot where I found the 1867 indian and the 1883 seated dime. After an hour and a half I had just one wheatie so I decided to try another hot spot at this park where I had found a good number of Indians and silver earlier this year.
Started finding a few wheaties and then I got a solid repeatable signal but the numbers were real bouncy. Dug down about 6 inches and saw a silver disc laying completely flat at the bottom of the hole. Gently removed it and I could see the eagle and I knew it was going to be a seated quarter. Flipped it over and rinsed it off with some water. It was worn but I could see the 1858 date. Looked at the back again to see if it had a mintmark and I could see an unmistakeable dark circle that indicated another coin had been setting against it. Checked the dirt I had taken out of the hole and found a full liberty 1898 V Nickel. The amount of detail on it was great indicating it was probably lost within a few years after it was minted. There are still some spots of original nickel colored finish since it was up against the quarter.
Found a 1903 Indian and 5 more wheaties before heading home.
