Found this under a tree root, on a home from the late 1700's. The home belonged to a Confederate Soldier. Pretty sure it is a counterfeit because it is a cut french coin. either way my oldest find so far!

Nice find! Looks authentic to me. If it's a really thin coin it could just be broken. I have found several three cent silvers that are broke in half.

Yeah, it looks legit to me too. It was probably cut to make change. Silver coins from that era are frequently found cut. I just need to find a couple of them myself...

IF it was counterfiet then it wouldnt be silver, itwould have been plated, and after 200 years in the ground there would be no plating left, let me tell you that coin is silver!! Truly authentic, post some better pics with more detail.
