Great Day in Indy! 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 24
Well, no one would go with me, so I had to go by myself. I knew of a farm field real close to my house where I hunted Indian artifacts. In the field there was a high spot that looked like an old house site. There were pieces of broken jugs, pottery, and glass strewn about, and I figured it might be a good place to try. I detected it last year too, but didn't find a single coin.

This year was different. A short time into the hunt I had a great signal. I dug it up and found a coin about the size of a nickel, but it registered too high. I looked a little closer- a 2 cent piece! Next I picked up an arrowhead. That will do... Fifteen minutes later I got a high pitch signal - real deep too. I had been picking up hot rocks too, so I wasn't too hopeful, but I dug it anyway. Bingo! A Large Cent pops out! Now I am really psyched! Dry spell... I hunted for another 2 hours; nothing but a couple old buttons. I finally decided to get ready to go. I started on one last pass on the top of the hill. Bong! I get a nice top right signal, smooth an deep. I hoped I had another LC... I cut a big plug and started scooping out the dirt. Whoa! I see a big disk! Looks like I got another LC! Then I start to pick it up. It's heavy! And it looks silvery! Next I see the serrated edge. No Merc this time! I had to wait until I got home to clean it off, but I was hopeful...

Coins: 1853 LC, 2-cent, 1858-O Seated Half

NICE Seated Half! I sure hope the nicks and scratches on the reverse weren't from you though. I've nicked a few, but luckily they were only Wheaties and a Silver Rosie.

I'm responsible for most of them on the reverse. It was toward the end of the day and I ws getting tired. Unfortunately when the coin is really deep and BIG it is easier to do...
